Seit Februar 2019 ist Adrian als neuer Freiwilliger in Wikwiheba Mwana tätig. Adrian  leistet seinen weltwärts-Freiwilligendienst über die Entsendeorganisation artefact. Er löste Letizia ab, die zuvor 6 Monate im Center mitgearbeitet hatte. Auch sie war Solivol-Freiwillige und stand im Kontakt mit InGeAr e.V. Für unsere Kooperation stellen die Freiwilligen vor Ort eine wichtige Stütze dar, um von verschiedenen Standpunkten aus über die aktuellen Geschehnisse informiert werden zu können. Auch Adrian hat einer Kooperation mit InGeAr e.V. eingewilligt, weshalb wir ihn hier nun vorstellen möchten. 

Adrian in seiner ersten Woche 

"Hallo, ich bin Adrian, 18 Jahre und komme aus Essen. Mein Abitur habe ich 2018 abgeschlossen und mir war schon länger klar, dass ich danach etwas anderes sehen wollte. Ich wollte rauskommen aus Deutschland und ein neues Land, mit einer mir unbekannten Kultur kennen lernen. Ich wollte etwas alleine tun, selbständiger werden und dabei auch über mich erfahren." - Adrian K.

Da Adrian sich sehr für die geschichtliche Vergangenheit und auch gegenwärtige Situation in Ruanda interessierte, bewarb er sich bei artefact. Die Projektstelle in Ngarama sagte ihm zu, da er, in der Stadt aufgewachsen, neugierig war im ländlichen Bereich zu leben. Mit der Arbeit mit Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Behinderung hatte er keine expliziten Vorerfahrungen, durch die Hörschädigung seines Bruders ist es ihm aber auch nicht fremd. Adrian wohnt etwa 40 Minuten zu Fuß von Wikwiheba Mwana entfernt mit einem weiteren Freiwilligen zusammen in einer Wohnung, die zum Gelände einer Schule gehört. 

"Mein Arbeitstag beginnt um 08:00 und endet meist gegen 16:00 Uhr. Wenn ich ankomme, bereite ich meine Materialien vor und beschäftige mich hauptsächlich mit den Kindern mit Behinderung. Es kommt aber auch vor, dass ich helfe und den Unterricht für die kleinen Kinder mitgestalte. Eigentlich mache ich alles, was an kleineren Aufgaben anfällt."- Adrian K.

Durch die Umstrukturierung seit Januar 2019 kam Adrian direkt in einer Zeit des großen Umbruchs ins Center. Die neue inklusive Schulform und Tagesbetreuung für Kinder mit und ohne Behinderung befindet sich noch im Wandel. Es ist toll zu sehen, dass Adrian bereits nach 4 Wochen so gut zu recht kommt ist und seinen Platz zu finden scheint. 

"Ich denke bereits jetzt, nach 3 Wochen darüber nach, von 6 auf 9 oder sogar 12 Monate zu verlängern. Mein Fazit nach den ersten Wochen ist, dass langsam ein Alltag einkehrt. Ruanda kommt mir vor wie eine andere Welt, mit einer komplett anderen Kultur und anderen Werten und Weltbildern. Die Menschen sind sehr offen und gastfreundlich aber auch sehr oberflächlich, über politische Themen scheint wenig gesprochen zu werden und auch Freundschaften zu knüpfen scheint schwer." -Adrian K. 

Adrian macht einen sehr positiven Eindruck. Dennoch ist es normal, dass nicht alle Eindrücke positiv sind. Er hat Recht, wenn er feststellt, dass das Center nicht sehr gut ausgestattet ist und vieles - gerade mit deutschem Blick- anders läuft als gewohnt. Er ist mit einer offenen Erwartungshaltung in den Freiwilligendienst gegangen, mit offenen Augen und offenem Herzen wie er sagt. Er nimmt die Aufgaben und Herausforderungen an, die man ihm gibt und ist gespannt, wie sich die Zeit gestalten wird. 

"Ich lasse das Land auf mich wirken. Ich will schauen, was mit mir selber passiert, wie sich meine Persönlichkeit entwickelt, ob sie sich entwickelt." - Adrian K. 

Wir sind uns sicher, dass er eine tolle Zeit erleben und durch die Menschen und die Arbeit in Wikwiheba Mwana bereichert werden wird und auch er durch seine lebensfrohe, offene Art andere bereichert. Für die nächsten spannenden Monate in Ngarama wünschen wir ihm dafür nur das Beste!

Solivol- Volunteer 2019 

Adrian

Since February 2019 Adrian is working as a new volunteer in Wikwiheba Mwana. Adrian does his weltwärts voluntary service through the organization artefact. He replaced Letizia, who had previously worked in the center for 6 months. She was also a Solivol volunteer and was in contact with InGeAr e.V. For our cooperation, the volunteers are an important support in order to be informed from various points of view about the current events. Adrian has also agreed to cooperate with InGeAr e.V., which is why we would like to introduce him here.

"Hello, my name is Adrian, 18 years old and I'm from Essen, Germany, where I graduated from high school in 2018. I realized a long time before that I wanted to see something different, that I wanted to get out of Germany and see a new country, with a different culture. I wanted to do something on my own, become more independent and also learn about myself. " - Adrian K.

As Adrian was very interested in the historical past and present situation in Rwanda, he applied to artefact. The project in Ngarama fitted him as he grew up in the city and was curious to live in a rural areas. He did not have any previous experience in working with children and adolescents with disabilities, but he is not unfamiliar with it, because of his brother's hearing loss. Adrian lives about 40 minutes walk from Wikwiheba Mwana with another volunteer in an apartment that belongs to a school.

"My workday starts at 8:00 am and usually ends around 4:00 pm When I arrive, I prepare my materials and work mainly for the children with disabilities, but sometimes I also help and teach the smaller children. Actually I do everything that needs to be done. "- Adrian K.

Due to the restructuring since January 2019 Adrian came to the center directly in a time of great upheaval. The new inclusive school form and day care for children with and without disabilities is still changing. It's great to see that Adrian is doing well after only 4 weeks and seems to find his place.

"I already think about extending it from 6 to 9 or even 12 months and my conclusion after the first few weeks is that I am slowly getting a daily routine. Rwanda seems like another world, with a completely different culture, different values ​​and images of the world. People are very open and hospitable, but also very superficial, there seems to be little talk about political issues and making friends could be difficult. " Adrian K.

Adrian makes a very positive impression. Nevertheless, it is normal that not all impressions are positive. He is right when he states that the center is not very well equipped and much - especially with a German view - runs differently. He went into the voluntary service with open expectations, with open eyes and open heart as he says. He takes on the tasks and challenges that are given to him and is curious about what will happen in the next months.

"I let the land affect me, I want to see what happens to myself, how my personality develops, if it develops." - Adrian K.

We are sure that he will have a great time enriched by the people and the work in Wikwiheba Mwana and that he will enrich others with his joyful and open nature. We wish him all the best for the next exciting months in Ngarama!
